Protecting your oral health should be a high priority. Maintaining the health of your smile is extremely important because your oral health can actually affect your overall health. You should take precautions to protect your teeth, including wearing a mouthguard when you play sports.

Your mouth may suffer a number of serious issues if you play sports. For example, you could experience trauma which could even lead to a dislodged tooth. If this happens, you’ll need to have the tooth replaced. If you don’t, you could have to cope with a number of serious issues, such as bad breath, gum disease (which can actually lead to gum and heart disease), and your other teeth could shift out of place. So please remember to wear a mouthguard when you’re participating in sports—especially during contact sports.

There are several types of mouthguards you can use. If you go to a store, you could select a boil-and-bite mouthguard. As the name implies, you boil this mouthguard, then bite into it. These mouthguards fit fairly comfortably. You could also select a one-size-fits-all mouthguard, although this type of mouthguard doesn’t usually fit well and might be uncomfortable. You can also consider the benefits of a custom mouthguard made by our dentist. These mouthguards will fit more comfortably and provide more protection.
